Consentful Interface
Design Process & Reflection
Following the F.R.I.E.S model, I wanted to offer the user a clear and guided journey through every single step of their experience of the camera. I wanted them to understand the decisions they need to make to activate the camera, and the freedom and options they have in the process. I also added several interactive elements in the process, in the hope of making this journey of information interesting and aesthetically engaging without compromising its clarity.
Whenever it comes to webpages that inform the user on privacy and consent, I often found the crowded amount of information and the number of sliders, buttons and checkboxes very disorienting. Hence, for this design, I tried to space out the information and created a layout guide that every scene will follow. My information is divided into multiple sections so that the user can focus on one topic at a time. This will allow for a cleaner and easier to understand presentation. At every step, my buttons and controls are placed in the same area and follow a similar layout so the user can intuitively find the information and button they need. The three main scenes leading to the camera include “camera example diagram”, “privacy statement”, and “camera consent”. Each of the scene aims to offer the user a better understanding of the function and mechanism of the camera, and explain their ability to engage and disengage as a user.
My initial design for this project was very minimalist. After the feedbacks in class and user-testing with friends, I decide to prioritize clarity, while still trying to maintain a certain level of minimalist aesthetic and visual consistency in my design.
